Isobel Hagan is the daughter of Immanuel Rutjinama Tjapaltjarri (now deceased) who was ordained at the Hermannsburg Mission as a Lutheran pastor. One of his brothers was Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri (now deceased), a very well-known artist. Her family includes other talented painters such as her cousins, Gabrielle Possum Nungarrayi and Michelle Possum Nungarrayi, and her uncles, Tim Leura Tjapaltjarri (now deceased) and Cassidy Tjapaltjarri. Isobel is a very active member in the Yuelamu community as served as a President of the Community's Council. She commenced painting in 1982 and depicts in her art the stories associated with the Yuelamu area, including Goanna and Bush Foods. In her painting, she uses similar colours to her famous uncle, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri..
