Greeny Purvis, a ceremonial leader in his community, depicts stories from his traditional country of Atneltyeye, including the Emu, Turkey, Tam and Kangaroo. He commenced painting in the mid 1980s; then, after some three years of abandoning painting activity, he recommenced. In one of his paintings entitled Sacred Men's Body Paint, he shows the stark lines painted on bodies of danceres who perform male ceremonies. His art, although imbued with traditional meaning and understanding of his country, looks "modern" with sparse use of designs and symbols.
